GSPIA
Connections
GSPIA Connections is a password protected, web-based
career management system for
students, alumni and employers. GSPIA
Connections serves as your real-time job
information source, and also contains a calendar
of events, career information resources, and other
documents such as the Internship policy and career
services expectations agreement. Students will
be able to post resumes and cover letters online for
review by employers, develop an email job alert notice
of employment opportunities that meet specific needs
and interests, and apply for positions online.
Students and alumni
Employers
As of June 20, 2008
GSPIA Connections became part of Symplicity's Career Services Management (CSM) system. If you have difficulty logging on to the new system, please email careerplanning@gspia.pitt.edu.
Career Counseling
Upon entering
GSPIA and throughout their studies, students can schedule
appointments with Career Services staff to discuss
internship opportunities and career concerns. This service is aslo available to all alumni throughout the course of their careers.
Career
Skills Workshops
Career Services
offers workshops throughout the academic year on topics
including, but not limited to: Job Search Strategies,
Networking, How to Work a Job Fair, Interviewing,
Utilizing Web Resources, and Marketing Yourself from
Start to Finish.
Career Information Sessions
Employers
and alumni visit campus to discuss their organizations
and career opportunities. These interactive
sessions, typically separate from on-site recruitment
activities, provide important career information and
include a question-and-answer session for participants.
On-Campus
Recruiting
GSPIA students
are actively recruited on campus by organizations
such as the US Department of State; Homeland Security
Division of Transportation Security Administration;
Central Intelligence Agency; Government Accountability
Office; National Geospatial Intelligence Agency; Office
of Management and Budget; Catholic Relief Services;
and National Air and Space Intelligence Center.
Career
Fairs
Multiple
fairs serving various audiences are offered throughout the year. Examples
include Pittsburgh Federal Career Day, the Local Government
Academy Fair, and Internship Fair.
Alumni/Employer
Networking
Throughout
the year, students will have opportunities to network
with alumni and employers through campus visits, career
fairs, or special event programs.
Career Resource Guides
If you need
additional information about any aspect of a job search,
career guides are available in the document library
of GSPIAConnections.
Books
and Publications
Public service,
employment and career publications are available for
student reference. In addition, weekly or monthly
publications are available including International
Career Employment Weekly and Monday Developments.
Management
Internships and Fellowships
GSPIA
graduates can enhance their education and career experience
by applying for fellowships or state and local government
management training programs. These full-time paid
opportunities are typically one to two years in length,
offer intensive on-the-job training, and involve rotational
assignments. Following successful completion of the
program, individuals advance to a regular full-time position.
The Office of Career Services continues to source these programs
and posts them on GSPIAConnections. |
