Philanthropy Forum: Combating Poverty

01/10/2014

The Philanthropy Forum will host guest lecturer Josh Write, executive director of ideas42, at 2 p.m., Thurs., Jan. 30 at the University Club, Ballroom A.

Using a greater understanding of scarcity to combat poverty

The latest research into the psychology of Scarcity provides us with a new and greater understanding of the effects of poverty on how low-income people make decisions and why poverty persists.  This new understanding can help us make existing programs and policies more effective and design new products, programs, and policies to help people move up the economic ladder and permanently interrupt the cycle of poverty.  Speaker Josh Wright will provide an overview of the latest research on scarcity and how it can be applied in the real world to combat poverty.
