| The
cost of an advanced degree can be prohibitive to some
students. Endowed funds provide assistance to outstanding
students with financial need.
Endowed
funds begin with an initial contribution (an endowed
student resource fund can be created with a contribution
of $10,000), which is then invested and increases
in value. Each year a portion of the earnings is made
available to GSPIA to distribute while the principal
continues to grow. A description is created to guide
the use of the fund and includes selection criteria
which can be chosen by the donor to reflect his or
her values or interests.
Endowed
funds can provide support for tuition and expenses,
travel, research, books, internship expenses, or as
an award for outstanding achievement.
If you
would like to contribute to an endowed fund, please
consider a gift to one of those listed below. The
contributions of alumni lighten the financial burden
for outstanding students and create a legacy of support.

- NEW! GSPIA Internship Fund
- Established by the generous support of GSPIA alumni, this fund (when mature) will support the educational expenses of GSPIA students including, but not limited to, travel, rent, utilities and other living expenses in a city other than Pittsburgh during a temporary relocation during an internship.
- Christine Altenburger Endowed Fund
- Associate
Professor Emerita and former GSPIA Assistant Dean.
- Provides support for students in Public and
Urban Affairs.
- Carolyn Ban Fellowship Fund.
- Provides
support to students of high academic achievement
who have financial need.
- de Zafra Leadership Fellows Endowment
- Established
by Dorothea de Zafra Atwell, Distinguished Alumna,
MPIA 1965.
- Supports student internships including
travel to international internships, student research,
or student travel to participate in conferences.
- Michael Flack Endowment Fund
- Provides support for students in International
Affairs and International Development.
- Donald Goldstein Endowed Fund, Professor, MPIA.*
- In honor of Professor Donald Goldstein and his commitment to GSPIA and its students, he established this fellowship. AGORA has continued to support his gift through the sale of the "Goldy Bobblehead" doll.
- A committee consisting of the AGORA officers and two members of the administration will choose one student.

Aaron who was a student in the MPIA program.

- Lawrence Cabot Howard Doctoral Research Award
- Professor and Dean Emeritus
- Provides support
for a GSPIA PhD candidate.
- Professor Saul M. Katz International Lectureship on Economic and Social Development
- Professor Emeritus Saul M. Katz (deceased) was an international authority on economic and social development with a special interest in the implementation of development policies, programs and projects. Professor Katz was among the small group of founding faculty of GSPIA in 1960. During much of his tenure he served as Director of the Programs of Economic and Social Development. He became a professor emeritus in 1986 and established this fund in 1994 to provide support for a lecture series on economic and social development.. Professor Katz passed away in 1995.

- Founding Dean

- Provides support for at least 2 students from underrepresented
populations who have overcome social adversity.
* These
funds are currently in formation. Funds must reach
the $10,000 endowment threshold within five years,
or the gifts will be used to support a student studying
Public and International Affairs.
