GSPIA
enjoys several international partnerships that present
students and faculty with opportunities to learn -
and master - the challenges and complexities of living,
working, and serving in communities and organizations
at every level: local, national, and global.
The
University Center for International Studies (UCIS)
The
University Center for International Studies
is home to four internationally recognized area
studies centers. Each one has been designated a National
Resource Center by the US Department of Education,
certifying their status as leading centers of their
kind in the United States.
Among its many
programs and centers, UCIS offers Area Studies certificates
in:
In addition to the above four certificates, UCIS also offers a certificate in African Studies. Established in 2001, the African Studies Program gives students the opportunity to complete extensive studies on issues surrounding the development of Africa.
The Global
Studies Program is a joint partnership
between GSPIA and UCIS. A certificate in Global
Studies provides students with 'global competence.' Global Studies certificate students choose one of
the following six global issues concentrations and
unite it with the study of a particular region and
language:
-
Changing
Identities in a Global World
-
Communication,
Technology, and Society
-
Conflict
and Conflict Resolution
-
Global
Health
-
Global
Economy and Global Governance
- Sustainable Development
The certificate
programs also encourage students to take advantage
of the many international learning opportunities available
at the University of Pittsburgh.
