Career and Learning Goals
Most of the
professionals enroll in the MPPM program to update
their skills and knowledge base so that they can be
more effective in their current positions, or advance
in their chosen careers. Others are thinking about
changing careers based on their community service
experiences as volunteers and board members. A small
group of professionals also have made the decision
to get intellectually re-engaged with new ideas and
experiences after a long career in one profession
or sector. All share an intense desire to enrich their
lives, and expand their social and professional networks
through the learning experience.
Some 180+
professionals have graduated from the program and
in a recent survey, they offered these comments:
I have
used my skills learned in the MPPM program to improve
my work in health policy analysis and advocacy,
and to develop a program strategy and implementation
plan - Program Manager with a nonprofit agency.
I did
a field study in Taiwan and a paper on NGO accountability
. . . and received several admissions to doctoral
programs. I must say the training I received at
GSPIA gave me those opportunities for personal development
- Social Work Case Manager with a shelter in
New Mexico .
I didn't
expect the degree to increase my income potential
but it did. During my time at GSPIA and since graduation,
I have had three promotions. My GSPIA experience
definitely played a role in each - Director
of Grants and Contract Compliance with a government
agency.
I was
able to bring my [GSPIA] project on cultural diversity
awareness directly to my department, and when we
were confronted with the situations, we were prepared
- Manager with local area hospital.
