The occupational
outlook for experts in civil security and disaster
management is expected to grow as every city, county,
and state government-as well as virtually every branch
of the federal government-has or will soon require
resources to deal with security and disaster management.
The minor in
Civil Security and Disaster Management, introduced
by GSPIA in 2006, will prepare students with a core
set of concepts and skills for working in security-related
organizations. It represents a coherent program of
study for students who are interested in the unique
combination of civil security, intelligence, information
management, national security, and disaster management.
The minor
is open to students in three degree programs within
the School: Master of Public Administration, Master
of Public and International Affairs, and Master of
International Development.
Three courses
(totaling 9 credits) are required for the minor.
The courses allow students interested in civil security
and disaster management to concentrate their elective
courses in a way that is complementary to their selected
major.
