Interactive, Intelligent Spatial Information System (IISIS) debuts its capabilities at ICMA Conference
The IISIS lab officially joined GSPIA in 2006, and has recently completed the first field demonstrations to the local Pittsburgh community and visitors to the 93rd annual International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Conference on October 8. The IISIS team also performed a similar demonstration for Pittsburgh's Mon Valley on Saturday, October 6.
Headed by principal investigator Louise Comfort, IISIS is computational software that allows emergency workers in local communities to streamline the communication process during disasters. Software users can access and share information instantly, including weather conditions, injuries, road blockages and more.
Adding to the program's capacity, software users can access a document library that contains emergency plans for the following entities: City of Pittsburgh; Allegheny County Emergency Management Agency (ACEMA); Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA); and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Communities need only a computer, high speed internet access, and IISIS training sessions to use the software.
IISIS is only available in the Pittsburgh region, but it was made to be scaled nationwide, and will be available for other communities to use once it is licensed through the University of Pittsburgh. For more information, visit iisis.pitt.edu.
