Y. Miller Named Interim Dean of GSPIA

David Y.
Miller, associate professor and associate dean of
Pitt's Graduate School of Public and International
Affairs (GSPIA), has been named interim dean of GSPIA.
During his career, Miller's academic interests have
focused on the changing dynamics of decentralization,
particularly as it affects local and metropolitan
governance. Before joining the University, he served
as the City of Pittsburgh 's director of management
and budget and as managing director of the Pennsylvania
Economy League.
He is the author of The Regional Governing of Metropolitan
America (Westview Press, 2002). Currently, he is the
commissioner of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission,
chair of the National Association of Schools of Public
Affairs and Administration's Local Government Management
Education committee, and a member of Sustainable Pittsburgh's
Executive Committee, among other professional service
positions.
Miller received the B.A. degree in political science
from Syracuse University in 1969, the M.P.A. degree
from Kent State University in 1971, and the Ph.D.
degree from Pitt's Graduate School of Public and International
Affairs in 1988.
