Associate Professor Paul Nelson publishes new book on
human rights and NGOs
Paul Nelson, Associate Professor of International Development and Director of the International Development Division, published New Rights Advocacy: Changing Strategies of Development and Human Rights NGOs with co-author Ellen Dorsey in April 2008.
The book combines views from international relations, human rights, development theory, and the sociology of social movements into diverse and comprehensive case studies of how human rights and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) are interconnected. Especially in recent years, the overlap of human rights and development NGOs have caused changes in theories and practices, and New Rights Advocacy is one of the first books to examine how and why.
Co-author Ellen Dorsey is executive director of the Wallace Global Fund and is past chair of the board of Amnesty International USA.
