GSPIA associate dean inducted into the UAA Distinguished Service Honor Roll

May 29, 2020

University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs' Associate Dean Sabina Deitrick was recently inducted into the Urban Affairs Association's (UAA) Distinguished Service Honor Roll.

Deitrick has been a member of the organization for more than 20 years. She also serves as the Governing Board Treasurer, Finance Committee Chair, Local Host Chair, and has served on numerous other UAA committees.

UAA is the international professional organization for urban scholars, researchers, and public service professionals. The organization is dedicated to creating interdisciplinary spaces for engaging in intellectual and practical discussions about urban life.

In 2013, UAA established the Distinguished Service Honor Roll to recognize our most impactful service leaders.  This year the UAA Recognitions Committee has selected eight individuals for induction into the Distinguished Service Honor Roll.

Deitrick is one of eight inductees.

She is an avid proponent of community outreach and engagement and has lead numerous research efforts, as well as the development of partnerships like the Pittsburgh Neighborhood and Community Information System (PNCIS). With a PhD in city and regional planning, she focuses on the impacts of the nonprofit sector and higher education institutions in their regional communities.

This year she was also the University of Pittsburgh's inaugural Tracy Soska and John Wilds Outreach and Engagement Leadership Award winner. Soska and Wilds, who both retired last year, praised Deitrick’s commitment to her students, “putting them out into the community through her commitment to research service learning.”

The UAA Distinguished Service honorees will be formally inducted into the Honor Roll during the UAA Conference Awards meal scheduled for the spring conference in Nashville, Tenn. April 21-24, 2021.
